1. 21 IORA countries adopt the Delhi Declaration on Renewable Energy

  • These nations adopted the Delhi Declaration post the second IORA Renewable Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Greater Noida under the aegis of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
  • Delhi Declaration calls for collaboration among IORA member states in meeting the growing demand for renewable energy in the Indian Ocean littorals.
  • It also calls for the development of a common renewable energy agenda for the Indian Ocean region and the promotion of regional capacity building.

2. Sahyog HOP TAC-2018

  • Coast Guards of India and Vietnam hold the joint exercise on the off coast of Chennai.

Related Information

  • The highlight of the exercise was a scenario of hijacking an oil ship and subsequent rescue of its crew in the coordinated joint operation of both the countries.
  • Coast Guard ships Shaurya, Arnvesh, and interceptor boat C-431 along with a Dornier aircraft and Chetak helicopter participated in the joint exercise.

3. India’s first dolphin research center to come up soon in Patna

  • National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC) will be the first of its kind in India’s and Asia.

  • The Gangetic river dolphin is one of the four freshwater dolphin species in the world.
  • They are also found in the Yangtze River, the Indus river in Pakistan and Amazon river basin.
  • The Gangetic river species — found in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal — is almost completely blind.
  • Gangetic dolphins prefer deep water with adjoining shallow water.
  • They live in a zone where there is little or no current that helps them save energy.
  • The dolphins swim from the no-current zone to the edges to hunt for fish and return.

4. First State water grid portal launched in Jaipur

  • The first State water grid portal was along with the start of the fourth phase of the Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan.

  • The Water Resources Department has developed the portal to monitor the availability and supply of water from different sources.

  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation is adding a Digital experience for Air Travelers through DigiYatra Platform.

6. India ranked 5th in pictorial warning on tobacco products

  • Canadian Cancer Society releases the international status report in the listing of countries that have the pictorial health warning on tobacco products.

  • Canadian Cancer Society has ranked 206 countries and territories on the size of their health warnings on cigarette packages
  • East Timor is ranked first with 85% of the front and 100% of the back of the packaging being used for pictorial warnings.
  • Nepal follows with 90% coverage on both sides. Indian packaging has the warning on 85% of both sides
  • The government of India for the first time introduced a Quit-Line number to be printed on all tobacco products.
  • India is the only SAARC country to have a Quit-Line number on tobacco products and the fourth in Asia after Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

  • The pack warning will help to warn people, especially the illiterate and children, about the harms of tobacco consumption.
  • The Quit-Line number will help those who want to quit.

7. The first moon outside our solar system discovered

  • The newly discovered exomoon and the planet it orbits are both gaseous.

  • Astronomers have pinpointed the first moon detected outside our solar system.
  • It is a large gaseous world the size of Neptune that is unlike any other known moon and orbits a gas planet much more massive than Jupiter.
  • The exomoon and its planet orbit Kepler-1625, a star similar in temperature to our sun but about 70% larger.
  • The exomoon orbits roughly 3 million km from its planet and its mass is about 1.5% that of its planet.

8. India Gets $150 Million Loan for First Skill Park in Madhya Pradesh

  • India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $150 million loan agreement to establish the country’s first multi-skills park in Madhya Pradesh.

  • The Global Skills Park (GSP), to be set up in Bhopal, will help enhance the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in the state.
  • The campus will consist of core Advanced Training Institutes including the Center for Occupational Skills Acquisition and the Center for Advanced Agricultural Training.
  • “The campus will have training facilities focusing on skills for manufacturing, service and advanced agricultural jobs, benefitting about 20,000 trainees and trainers.
